HI WORLD.
Yes, I have come to the realisation that I fail at blogging. HAHAHAHAH. But actually. I have legit reasons for it! (I think.. heh) but I hope all you out there who have been repeatedly telling me to update my blog have forgiven me for my blogging laziness. Cause yes, here is an update. :D Yay!
But wow, so much has happened since I started this blog (way back then...hahahah) Alright, to first set up the scene:
It is currently 2:30am. I am chillin in my room on my (new) laptop. I keep making typing errors because of this new British keyboard I'm still not completely used to. (story of laptop to come) I have LastFM.com playing in the background (Thanks, Calder! Soo amazing. basically Pandora for those who do not know, except unlike Pandora, it works overseas!!). I can hear the city still moving and lively outside my window. I'm running off about 4-5 hrs of sleep a night for the past few nights. (YESS) and life is interesting--I shall go further into details as this goes on. woot!
ANYWAYS,
life.in.london.is.and.still.continues.to.be.AMAZING.
well most of it.
ahahahahah. so to get over the sad parts of my life, a couple nights ago my laptop decided to kick the bucket. ): IT WAS SUCH A SAD NIGHT. basically I was in the middle of doing my real analysis problem set, using the internet to look at my class notes, when my laptop starting acting really really slow, so as I usually do when this happens, I restart my computer to try and get it back to normal. Except unlike normal, when it turns back on it tells me that something is wrong with the disk and it needs to run a scan. Okay, I do that. and it goes through the whole cycle, tells me it's done and okay and begins to restart itself. Except this time, it starts loading up and right after the start up screen, it flicks out and begins starting up again. And before I know it I'm in a continous loop of restarting at the beginning phases of the startup cycle. So I sit. And stare. After about 10 min of looping later I start to freak out. Eff. Thus commences panic attacks as I realise that, yes indeed my laptop has just died on me. It no longer worked. Such a sad night. I felt like my entire house had just burned to the ground. Everything gone. No way to communicate to the outside world. I realised how dependent I was on my laptop, especially while overseas. I talk to everyone back home via laptop and internet, and one of my main forms of communication even here in London is my computer. It was a little disheartening how dependent I found I am on my laptop, but I guess at the same time that's what comes with this age. Such an integrated world, and I've gotten used to it and overall it's not a horrible thing. Eh. Anyways, so on with the laptop story. Soo the next day I decide to take my laptop to the Sony store to see if they could fix it. The guy takes it in to perform diagnostic tests to determine whether it was a software or hardware problem. Turns out I had a corrupted hard drive. Which is not fixable outside of the US, of course.
To make a long story short, after what seemed like forever of running back and forth between classes and the Sony store and my meetings and calling home I decided to just get a new laptop. And thus, I now own a new British laptop. Which I am really starting to love.
Though the really horrible thing about this whole situation is the fact that my iTunes now has a grand total of 0 songs. D: and it's going to stay that way until I can download the software to transfer my ipod songs onto my laptop. pooop. so yesterday and most of today I was streaming British radio. To be specific, British pop music radio. HAHHHAH omg it was so interesting. all their popular music is like techno-y pop. And they all sound like all the songs that are played in the clubs here. And I realised that I really can't listen to this clubby pop unless I'm at a club. STORY: so I woke up at 7am to finish my real problem set this morning, and I hate sitting in silence in my room so I turned on my British radio, and yes even at 7am they were playing club music. WE NO SPEAK AMERICANOO. all morning. HAHHHAHAHHAH ohmygod that was very interesting as I sat there in my half-asleep state attempting to do an impossible problem set. Omg all I could think of was how I wanted a drink. At 7am. yes. -__- wahahhahahah. wonderful.
SO I'M TIRED OF WRITING ABOUT NO FUN TIMES. so no more of that. (:
"HEY DIANE, WHAT EXACTLY HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO, OVER THERE IN LONDON?"
"Well, You, the truth is--so, so much."
WHERE TO BEGIN.
I guess at the beginning?
Orientation week was crazy, in a good way. day=orientation events. night=fun times exploring the London night scene. First week of classes: also, crazy. Finding my way around campus whilst constantly getting lost, organizing my still unpacked room (I don't think I ended up unpacking my suitcase until a week and a half after I arrived here...ahahahah true story.), trying not to become a number in my HUGE classes (largest lecture: intro to accounting with about 600 people, smallest lecture about 100 people. Definitely a big change from Tufts.), exploring the neighborhood, etcetcetc. And I'm finishing up week2 now and things are definitely getting easier to handle (somewhat. haha). Good news--I no longer get lost! well, at least I don't get lost all the time anymore. heheh. I'm getting more used to my lecture size, classes (similar to reciatations, each course has a couple lectures and a class, except classes are capped at 15 people in each) are starting now, and I'm beginning to really dive into the material. It's exciting but tiring at the same time. My brain is already tired of learning. In week2. I have 18 more weeks to go, plus finals. wahahahahhaha my life. anyways, classes here def are a lot different than inthe US in that they are much more quantitatively focused, especially my econ classes. I really like this though, finally something I understand. Numbers=good. Words=bad. ahahahaha. but yea. I absolutely love the atmosphere here though. I love walking around campus and hearing all the different things that people are talking about--mainly things dealing with current politics/events/world economics/so many other random, but seemingly always intelligent, conversations. I was sitting at Costa (my new favorite study spot--local SHOOT I JUST HAD MAJOR DEJAVU THAT WAS WEIRD okay back to story, local coffeeshop.) and the people in the table next to me were talking about the opportunity costs of their decisions to come to grad school at LSE etc. I just loved their terminology so much, it made me really happy. hahaha. but yea, the atmosphere here is just beyond amazing. It's so crazy to think that over 70% of LSE's student body is from outside of England. It's actually sort of difficult finding British people here jsut becuase it is so international and diverse. I've already met people from all over, from Malaysia to Kenya to Switzerland to Mexico to China to everywhere. Walking around campus you hear so many different languages being spoken, it's so great. And basically everyone I have met so far have all been really friendly and I love how many random conversations I have with random people in elevators or walking down the street. I think the atmosphere is def one of my favorite parts of being here.
okay, to be honest I am passing out as I'm writing...wahahahah. I literally just closed my eyes for a good 5 min..I mean it is 3am here. and I do have lecture to attend tomorrow...blahh. so i think I'm going to cut this a little shorter than expected for my own sake. lols. Though, tomorrow I'm off to Cumberland Lodge, which is in the more countryside of England, near Windsor (Apparently, there is a possibility of the Queen sighting?? hopefully!) for the weekend! I'm excited. Nice little break from the city, and it's supposed to be beautiful over there. Thanks for reading my random ramblings! And I apologize for any typos or errors, I'm still getting used to this keyboard and exhaustion=laziness (: therefore I'm not really fixing anything. hahahah.
As a final statement, I will try my best to update this thing more often than once a month! haha. I've just been so busy with life and all that I really haven't had a chance to update this (which is why I am currently doing so at 3am. heh) but I will def try
Goodnight blogging world!
